DJELLABA BASKET

Marseille.

A repentant Salafist, a mosque dealer who once again became progressive.

A traditionalist from the northern districts against a google sheik in an “ SOS Islam “ way.

A gay Imam in favor of the inclusion of LGBT people.

A forward-looking bandit.

Young people sharing their time between pot and jihad, ready to follow any random preacher.

A societal approach to the “jellaba and sneakers” generation.

As France is struggling and still mourning its victims of the recent terrorist attacks, it seems audibly difficult to bring the peace-oriented, tolerant islam into the intercultural discussion. Jihad does not represent the muslim religion, nor does it represent the everyday life of islam believers. Just as any other religious group, muslims are not one, solid group of identical believers, but rather a diverse group of contrasting individuals, with various approaches to faith. As a result, being muslim is a broad definition including for those who are islam believers, but also those who, by their culture or ethnicity are preceived as muslims, despite being atheists or members of other religious groups.
